The Canning Stock Route Project is founded upon a program of workshops in multiple creative mediums. Various workshops throughout Australia - in remote communities, regional centres and cities - have been pivotal to the development and delivery of the Canning Stock Route Project. Since the birth of the project in 2006 there have been a total of 51 different workshops with communities, artists and the project team. This includes, but is not limited to, a six week Return to Country workshop, eight community consultation meetings, over six artists' camps, seven curators' workshops and 27 content approval workshops in communities.

Ngurra Carving

The Ngurra carving workshop was the first conducted on the Canning Stock Route Project. Mangkaja and Ngurra artists travelled to Jilji Bore south-east of Fitzroy Crossing to carve a range of artefacts. Three of the coolamons made at this workshop became part of the National Museum of Australia’s Canning Stock Route collection.
